Korg Symphony-03

DesktopDigitalPolyphonic

Born in 1988 as a compact companion to Korg's chord digital pianos, this all-metal desktop module delivers instant orchestral depth without stealing the spotlight from your main keyboard.

Its sample-based digital engine packs 16-voice polyphony across 8 multitimbral parts with dynamic voice allocation, pulling from seven built-in presets like lush strings, punchy brass, choir with realistic male-to-female range shifts, guitar, organ, double bass, and drums. A card slot accepts expansions such as P3 Jazz Combo, Orchestral, Piano, or Pop cards for more variety. Controls are dead simple: dedicated buttons for each sound light up when selected, a volume knob, and a 7-segment LED for setup like MIDI channel and basic parameters—no deep editing needed, and it powers up remembering your last settings. The beveled steel brick measures compactly for tabletop use, with velocity and aftertouch sensitivity, full MIDI In/Out/Thru, dual audio outs (mono or stereo sum), headphone jack, and 9V DC power.

Owners love its workhorse reliability for layering strings and choirs in sequencer setups, freeing pricier synths from polyphony drain, though some note the basic sounds sit well in mixes without overwhelming flash.
