Grainfield granular send effect running on a Teenage Engineering OP-XY, from the Colors In Space demo

Grainfield

OP-XYgithub.com

Grainfield adds a granular send effect to the Teenage Engineering OP-XY. It records incoming audio and scatters it into a cloud of grains, from sparse fragments to dense, sustained textures. Time, Density and Size shape the cloud, while the dry/wet mix balances it against the original sound. Freeze holds a moment of audio so you can keep playing over it, and Feedback becomes a scan through the frozen recording. Grain shape and reverb add further movement, with an octave-up shimmer appearing as reverb increases. It is installed through Open-XY using the owner’s stock firmware file; the second control page requires the project’s SDK patch, and an effects-only build must include a synth alongside Grainfield.

KARMA project artwork and pixel characters

KARMA

M-VAVE FM-1github

KARMA turns the M-VAVE FM-1 into a four-track groovebox with acid bass, analogue-style polyphony, physical modelling, Plaits synthesis and a dedicated drum synthesizer. Reactive pixel-art characters accompany each track, while a shared mixer brings the parts together. Melodic generators follow a common key and chord progression, with separate generators for acid lines and drum patterns. The step sequencer supports chords, ratchets, accents, slides, probability and song arrangements. A granular send, reverb, delay and punch-in effects shape the performance. USB audio provides stereo output or separate track stems alongside MIDI and DAW synchronisation. A browser emulator lets users explore the instrument, and the web editor manages sounds, drum kits, projects and backups.

Outatime synth, an example included in the Opus 2 Plugin Kit

Opus 2

OP-1 Portable Synthesizergithub.com

Opus 2 adds a modular plugin system to the original Teenage Engineering OP-1. Its core loads .opmod files from the instrument’s disk, letting owners add or remove synth engines, effects, performance tools and interface changes without rebuilding the firmware for every plugin. The starter pack includes DX7-style FM voice playback, Outatime and Dimension synths, a guitar amp, audio effects, scales and chords, and tape-editing tools. The mods menu shows installed plugins, their dependencies, memory use and processing load. Plugins are copied into the mods folder and loaded at startup; sounds retain their plugin identities so a missing plugin can be restored later. The browser patcher builds the core locally from the owner’s stock firmware file, and the project provides the starter pack and individual plugin downloads. This firmware supports the original OP-1 running stock firmware 246; OP-1 Field is excluded.

Opus 2 Plugin Kit

OP-1github.com

Opus 2 Plugin Kit helps developers create synth engines, effects, themes and workflow extensions for the original Teenage Engineering OP-1 running Opus. It provides C headers, an API reference, plugin manifests and Python tooling for creating, building and inspecting .opmod files. Example projects demonstrate an audio effect, a tape-view tool, a theme and a synth with a custom display. Plugins can use the instrument’s sound lists, pages, controls, settings and storage, with declared dependencies and resource requirements. The documentation covers compiler setup, installing a plugin on the OP-1 and checking its behavior before sharing it. The documented toolchain setup covers Linux and Windows; macOS setup remains unverified. The related OP-1 Mod Registry documents shared names and resources used by community mods.
