Dato Musical Instruments was founded in 2016 by David Menting and Toon Welling, both parents, designers, and synth enthusiasts who wanted to play synthesizers together with their children. The company launched its first product, the Dato DUO, through a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2016, establishing a commitment to creating accessible, user-friendly instruments for musicians of all ages. Based in Utrecht, Netherlands, where all instruments are hand-assembled, Dato continues this mission with products like the Dato DRUM, a circular drum machine designed for collaborative rhythm-making and intuitive beat exploration.
