Formanta was a Soviet-era manufacturer based at the Formanta Radio Factory in Kachkanar, Russian SFSR, where it produced the Polivoks, a duophonic analog synthesizer from 1982 to 1990. Designed by electronics engineer Vladimir Kuzmin at the Urals Vector plant, with its distinctive appearance inspired by Soviet military radios through input from his wife Olimpiada, the Polivoks became the most recognized Soviet synthesizer in the West for its unique sound and look reminiscent of Western brands like Roland and Moog.
