Movement Computer Systems

Bridgwater, Somerset, UK

Movement Computer Systems was a British drum machine manufacturer founded by John Dickenson and Dave Goodway, who owned the company and supplied the design concept and sound direction, working alongside electronic designer Dave Goodway. The company produced the Movement Drum System I/II (also known as the Movement MCS Percussion Computer) between 1981 and 1983, with approximately 10 MKI units and 50 MKII units built. The drum machine combined analogue synthesized drum sounds similar to the Simmons SDS-V with basic digital 8-bit drum samples, making it exceptionally futuristic for its era. The instrument gained prominence through use by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics on the 1983 hit "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" and was also used by the Thompson Twins and Thomas Dolby.
