Multivox was established in the mid-1940s as a manufacturing subsidiary of the New York-based Peter Sorkin Music Company, a retailer and wholesaler. The brand produced guitars, amplifiers for guitars, bass, and other instruments, as well as PA systems and hi-fi stereo equipment. In 1952, Multivox Corporation of America was incorporated in New York, engaging in importing, manufacturing, and selling musical instruments including electric organs.
