Pioneer Corporation was founded in 1938 in Tokyo by Nozomu Matsumoto, who began with a radio and speaker repair shop before developing the A-8 dynamic speaker. The company pioneered numerous audio and visual innovations including the world's first separate stereo system in 1962, the first component car stereo in 1975, and the first car CD player in 1984. Pioneer established itself as a major manufacturer and distributor of premium audio and visual products, expanding internationally with sales subsidiaries in Europe and the United States by 1966.
