CIRCUIT-HACKS is a set of firmware patches for the Novation Circuit Tracks that expands the groovebox's sound, sequencing and MIDI features while keeping its original workflow. The two MIDI tracks can drive a synth engine inside the Circuit itself, played from the sequencer or an external keyboard, with oscillator, four-operator FM, percussion, granular and sample-playback modes, filters and effects, and a modulation matrix. Master effects add a gater, auto-filters, bit reduction, a phaser and a tape-style glitch, and a resampling capture can be replayed, swapped into the drums or used as a granular source. Sequencing additions include step probability with random mutation and dynamics, pattern chains, an arpeggiator, micro-step drum rolls, custom scales, a chord screen and a step-pair sequencer for pitch or velocity. The drum knobs gain the functions printed on the panel plus a second layer of filters, envelopes and distortion, and new MIDI options cover thru and merge modes, program-change channels, a count-in metronome, General MIDI drum notes and CC and NRPN access to the new parameters. A browser-based uploader patches the official firmware file locally and sends it to the device over Web MIDI, and the official firmware can be restored at any time; backing up the SD card first is recommended.
