HAWK-800 is a hardware and firmware upgrade for the Korg Poly-800, including the MkII, and its EX-800 module version. It reworks the synth's modulation and voicing: two LFOs plus two extra super LFOs with triangle, sawtooth, sine, square/PWM and random sample-and-hold waves that can be inverted, LFO and envelope modulation of resonance and DCO harmonics, tremolo, an arpeggiator, mono and unison portamento, and MIDI velocity control of the filter and envelopes. Every original and extended parameter can be reached over MIDI through dedicated and NRPN controllers, alongside SysEx patch dumps, bank selection, MIDI clock sync for LFO2 and envelope retriggering, and sequencer transpose. A cascade mode splits notes between two units, the step-up jack doubles as a sustain pedal, the joystick can edit and select patches, and patches, global settings and sequences are stored in flash memory, so no backup battery is needed. The firmware runs on the HAWK-800 kit, which has to be built and installed inside the synth and calls for solid electronics skills; the optional AtomaHawk add-on adds envelope- and LFO-controlled extreme resonance, quasi-FM and a switchable 12/24 dB filter slope, all stored per patch.
