JJOS is an alternative operating system for the Akai MPC1000, including its black-finish variants, developed by JJ. The free version is the base install and adds audio tracks, grid editing for drum tracks, pad-based tap tempo, adjustable pad sensitivity, global program editing, improved save, load and trim modes, stereo-to-mono sample conversion and a test mode for the buttons and LEDs. Further editions install on top of it, including one for MPCs fitted with a larger 240x128 screen; saving in the extended editions requires a paid password. The extended edition expands the sequencer and sampler with grid editing for drum, MIDI, CC and audio tracks, non-destructive chopping, a track mixer, track mute groups, chords, note repeat hold, swing in the grid, a looping recorder mode and simultaneous pad and sequence recording. Its trim tools add crossfade loops, bit conversion, ring modulation, fades, normalizing, silence insertion and sample mixing, and it adds a fill function, MTC and MMC sync, footswitch control, real-time LFO, tempo and filter control, portamento and envelopes, and MIDI mapping of pads, Q-Links and effects.
