Firmware Mod
Machine

Troupe is a vocal synthesizer for the Teenage Engineering OP-XY. It morphs between vowels, changes vocal character and blends complementary voices into a small ensemble, with animated singers responding on screen. Vowel, Voice, Cast and Effort control articulation, character, ensemble balance and brightness. Authored waveforms generate the voices without recordings of singers, while the OP-XY supplies its amplitude envelopes, note releases and sequencing workflow. Installation uses Open-XY.

OP-XY MNMD
Machinegithub.com
OP-XY MNMD brings Monomachine-inspired synthesis to the Teenage Engineering OP-XY. Its catalog machines include FM DYN, FM PAR and FM STAT, pulse and ensemble voices, SID-style synthesis and the VO-6 vocal engine. Each machine plays chromatically and presents its sound controls across encoder pages within the OP-XY workflow. The repository also contains experimental Machinedrum and sample-based engines with separate build requirements; some require data captured from the owner’s own ROMs. Use Open-XY’s released catalog to select the engines available in the browser builder.
Tattva
Machinegithub.com
Tattva is an ambient synth for the Teenage Engineering OP-XY that surrounds held notes with wind, rain, surf and fire. These synthesized elements excite chimes, bells or glass tuned to the notes being played, creating evolving soundscapes without samples. One control page balances the elements; another sets the resonator type, excitation, decay and chime level. Weather continues across new notes and chords rather than restarting with every key press, while an animated shoreline follows the sound. Installation uses Open-XY.
Breadboard
Machinegithub.com
Breadboard is an original digital synth machine for the Teenage Engineering OP-XY, inspired by the documented controls of the OP-1 Digital engine. Wave shaping, a sub oscillator and pitch-locked digital texture cover rounded tones, raw waveforms and bell-like sounds. W Shaper morphs the main waveform, Octave transposes the sub oscillator, DetuneRM moves through detuning and modulation relationships, and Digital introduces noise texture, folding and bit reduction. The machine is installed through Open-XY and uses the OP-XY’s surrounding sequencing and sound-shaping controls.
matriXY
Machinegithub.com
matriXY turns the Teenage Engineering OP-XY into a pin-matrix synthesizer. Three routing pins connect an eight-by-eight grid of oscillators, noise, modulators and sound-shaping destinations, with the patch shown as a wireframe landscape. X and Y move the selected pin, Tilt changes musical ratios and modulation behavior, and Snap delays routing changes for controlled transitions. Destinations include output, pitch, wavefolding, filtering, ring modulation and digital reduction. Included presets range from percussion and bass to drones and noisy textures; installation uses Open-XY.
Nonagon Suite
Machinegithub.com
Nonagon Suite adds experimental synth machines to the Teenage Engineering OP-XY, drawing on physical and mathematical phenomena. Its catalog machines include Sand, Cocoa, Coin, Fermi, Mach, Butterfly and Drop, exploring rattling resonances, changing pitch, motion and unusual spectral behavior. Each machine combines two pages of sound controls with a display that follows the modeled phenomenon. The voices use the OP-XY’s envelopes, filter, modulation and effects and can be selected through Open-XY. The repository also describes Ghost and Recur, which are outside the released catalog selection covered here.
Hexagon Suite
Machinegithub.com
Hexagon Suite brings a collection of complementary synth machines to the Teenage Engineering OP-XY. Wane combines synthesis with cassette character, Bloom uses additive partials and formants, and Hollow models blown and bowed resonances. Orbit explores vector synthesis, Bend uses phase distortion and Moth pairs a folded oscillator with a lowpass gate. Each machine has two pages of controls and its own animated display. Matched levels help the voices layer and swap within a project, while the OP-XY’s envelopes, filter, modulation and effects remain part of the workflow. Choose the machines to install in the Open-XY builder.
Daath
Machinegithub.com
Daath is a witch-house bass machine for the Teenage Engineering OP-XY. Drifting saw oscillators and a sub voice feed asymmetric drive, a pitch-tracking lowpass and digital degradation, with tape-like pitch movement for dark, unstable textures. Swarm, Grave, Hex, Murk, Rot and Wow shape detuning, low-end weight, distortion, filtering, bit loss and pitch drift. Included presets provide starting points from clean bass to crushed and warped sounds, while a grimoire-style display follows the controls. Installation uses Open-XY.
Ohmonk
Machinegithub.com
Ohmonk brings a polyphonic chanting choir to the Teenage Engineering OP-XY. Glottal pulses and breath excite a vocal-tract model, followed by a temple-style delay for sounds ranging from dry throat drones to spacious choral textures. Vowel morphs the articulation, Shape changes the vocal tract, Vibes adds expressive movement and Delay controls the surrounding space. Animated monks respond to notes and chords, and the OP-XY’s own filter, envelopes, LFO and send effects follow the engine. Installation uses Open-XY.
Metal
Machinegithub.com
Metal is a metallic resonator synth for the Teenage Engineering OP-XY. A two-operator FM exciter strikes a bank of resonant modes to produce atonal bells, impacts, drips and ringing percussion. Drop shapes the exciter’s pitch movement, Ratio sets its operator relationship, Stretch changes the resonances’ spacing and Modes blends in additional resonances. The OP-XY’s amplitude envelope shapes the complete sound, while included presets provide starting points for percussion and unusual pitched textures. Installation uses Open-XY.
Hurdy Gurdy
Machinegithub.com
Hurdy Gurdy brings bowed-string synthesis to the Teenage Engineering OP-XY. A model of a rosined wheel excites the melody string, while shared drones and a buzzing bridge provide the sustained bed and rhythmic rasp of the acoustic instrument. Wheel, Buzz, Body and Unison shape the playing character, with Rosin, Coup, Drone and Tonic controls for friction, accents and accompaniment. The engine integrates with the OP-XY’s envelopes, filter, modulation and effects, and is installed through Open-XY.
Oldsun
Machinegithub.com
Oldsun is a Juno-inspired synth for the Teenage Engineering OP-XY, combining a warm oscillator and chorus with the character of a worn cassette. Shared tape movement gives chords a connected sense of pitch drift, flutter and age. Two pages of controls shape the oscillator, chorus and tape behavior, including warped, reversed and degraded textures. The OP-XY’s filter, envelopes, LFO and effects follow the engine, so it can be played and sequenced alongside the instrument’s other machines. Installation uses Open-XY.
Nightdrive
Machinegithub.com
Nightdrive is a feedback-FM bass machine for the Teenage Engineering OP-XY. Its compact voice moves from defined bass tones into unstable modulation and driven textures, accompanied by an animated night-driving scene. Speed sets the operator relationship, Tension controls feedback, Drift changes phase modulation and Glare adds overdrive. The four controls work within the OP-XY’s sequencing and sound-shaping workflow, and the machine is installed through the Open-XY builder.
Found Motive OP-XY Firmware
Machinefoundmotive.com
Found Motive’s custom firmware expands the Teenage Engineering OP-XY with additional instruments and effects that run on the hardware. Its engines include a fingerpicked guitar, a tempo-locked groove kit, an eight-singer choir, a sample-free piano, upright bass and shaker, alongside tape effects and vocal autotune with harmonies and freeze. Built using Open-XY, the project brings new sound-design options into the instrument’s existing workflow. The creator’s website provides downloads, demonstrations and installation instructions. This firmware is for the OP-XY; it is not an OP-1 or OP-1 Field release.
