Vecoven JX-8P firmware is a replacement operating system for the Roland JX-8P, supplied on a plug-in flash module that takes the place of the original program EPROM without soldering. It reworks the synthesizer's MIDI handling: every parameter can be set to receive, send, both or neither, individual tone and patch parameters can be edited over SysEx or MIDI CC, and edits made on the panel or a PG-800 programmer are sent out so they can be recorded and sequenced. The module holds 32 internal banks of 32 tones, preloaded with hundreds of sounds, and supports M-16C and M-64C cartridges for extra banks, fast bulk dumps to and from cartridge or internal memory, full backups to cartridge and import of existing tone dump files. It also includes an arpeggiator, a chord mode and a transpose mode, display options for showing incoming edits, and a compatibility mode that switches off the new behavior for older editor software. Firmware updates are installed by sending a MIDI file to the module.
