TXX-1 Spectron takes full, per-key recordings of vintage multisampled instruments and stitches them into a continuous, pitch-tracked signal, so changing frequency feels smooth and musical while the character of the original tapes stays intact.
In 16 HP, Spectron gives you a dual tape oscillator with independent Voices A and B, each with its own volt-per-octave input and gate or trigger, plus normalled connections so one set of controls can drive both. More than 20 tapes are included, with the option to select them via Scan CV or Tape Trigger for multi-timbral sequencing and hocketing tricks. A four-voice pseudo-polyphonic mode lets long releases overlap new notes, creating evolving harmonies that still respond like a single, playable instrument.
Two dedicated timbre sections, FM and Sync, move this module far beyond simple sample playback. FM lets you modulate one voice’s phase at the other’s pitch or cross-modulate them for everything from bell-like percussion to dirty, static-laced textures, all under continuous CV control with its own attenuvertor. Sync drives the samples at progressively higher rates while repeatedly resetting to the cycle boundary, producing tones that can feel like deep flanging, time stretching, or pitch shifting. Both timbre controls and their CV inputs are assignable to either voice or both, and their CV can be normalled to the onboard ASR envelope or the built-in LFO with selectable waveshapes. Add in the modulation matrix with multiple sources and extra CV inputs, and Spectron becomes not just a tribute to classic tape instruments, but a flexible, self-contained pair of synthesizer voices ready to be warped, layered, and pushed into entirely new territory.
