Access Virus TI Snow

DesktopDigitalPolyphonic

Back in 2008, this little powerhouse squeezed the legendary Virus TI engine into a palm-sized desktop module, making pro-level synthesis portable for the first time without sacrificing depth.

At its core, it packs three virtual analog oscillators per voice—complete with Hypersaw for massive detuned layers, wavetables, granular Grain modes, and formant waveforms—plus a sub oscillator, feeding into dual multimode filters (lowpass, highpass, bandpass, notch, and ladder-style with 6-24dB/oct slopes). Three LFOs, two lightning-fast ADSTR envelopes, and a modulation matrix with six slots (one source to three targets each) let you sculpt wild evolutions, while the 32-step arpeggiator and 129 parallel effects like reverb, distortion, phaser, chorus, ring mod, EQ, and even vocoder add polish. Controls are minimalist with a white LCD, three main knobs for smooth parameter tweaks (thanks to adaptive smoothing and knob quantize), dedicated filter cutoff/resonance knobs, and button rows for patch selection and easy-edit screens that spotlight key parameters—no endless menu diving on its own, but the Virus Control plug-in unlocks full graphical editing, Total Integration for DAW audio/MIDI routing, and sample-accurate timing when USB-connected. Measuring just 280 x 150 x 50mm and weighing 1.5kg, with stereo ins/outs, full MIDI, and 50-voice polyphony across four parts, it's built for studio racks or travel bags, holding 512 RAM/ROM patches compatible with the full TI family.

Over the years, players have praised its fat, versatile tones—from snarling leads to atmospheric pads—that hold up in modern mixes, though some note the sparse front-panel knobs push you toward software for deep tweaks, which many see as a fair trade for its size and integration.
