A bold take on the classic JX-style polysynth, the JX-2044 by adamstan is an 8-voice, bi-timbral analog project built around digitally controlled oscillators and a resonant V2044 filter core. It aims for the warmth and motion of a vintage subtractive synth, while adding modern performance tools and a deeper modulation and effects palette.
Each voice uses two DCOs with selectable waveforms, including saw, pulse, triangle, and noise depending on the oscillator, plus cross-mod and PWM for more animated tones. The synth also includes three ADSR envelopes and three LFOs per voice, a 24 dB/oct resonant low-pass filter with self-oscillation, a per-layer high-pass filter, velocity, monophonic aftertouch, an arpeggiator, and simple sequencer functions.
Where it expands beyond the original inspiration is in its per-layer digital effects section, which includes resonant filter bank modes, stereo chorus, phaser, and delay/reverb. It is currently a prototype in desktop or rackmount form, with stereo outputs and MIDI In/Out over 5-pin DIN, making it a compelling work-in-progress for players drawn to hands-on analog architecture with a more expansive sonic range.
