S950FX is a free custom operating system that turns the Akai S950 into a real-time 12-bit signal processor. It continuously processes audio from the LINE input and sends it to the MIX output, with adjustable sample rate and low-pass filtering. Continuous processing avoids the sampler’s usual sample-time limit, allowing its hardware sound to be used alongside a modern sampler or DAW. The operating system loads at startup from a floppy disk image or floppy emulator, without replacing ROM chips or modifying the hardware. Removing the disk and restarting returns the machine to its original operating system. This version is intended for the Akai S950; use the model-specific download linked from the project website.
