Alesis QuadraSynth

DigitalPolyphonic

Back in 1993, this synth broke ground as Alesis's first big swing at keyboards, packing a massive 16MB of sample ROM into a lightweight 76-key frame—making high-end sounds accessible without breaking the bank.

Its composite synthesis layers up to four tones per patch, drawing from PCM waveforms and samples processed through digital filters, LFOs, and envelopes, all at 16-bit/48kHz resolution for crisp 20Hz-20kHz response. The real star is the onboard QuadraVerb 2-inspired effects engine, routing four FX simultaneously across 16-part multitimbral mixes, with quad-knob controllers for real-time tweaks, pitch/mod wheels, channel aftertouch, and velocity sensitivity on the light-action E-G keyboard. Connectivity shines with stereo main/aux outs, ADAT optical digital output, PCMCIA expansion slot, and two pedal inputs, plus 128 preset/user programs and 100 mixes.

Players loved its plug-and-play ease for live gigs and studio work, praising the drum mode's detailed controls and overall audio quality, though some found deep editing a bit clunky compared to rivals. A true vintage workhorse that still delivers rich pianos, synths, and kits today.
