JT MINI Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer

DesktopAnalogPolyphonic

Behringer's take on the Jupiter-8 formula proves that you don't need a vintage price tag or a studio-sized footprint to get authentic analog character. The JT Mini arrived in late 2024 as a genuinely compact synthesizer that captures the essence of 1980s Japanese synth design without compromise on the core sound engine.

Three voltage-controlled oscillators form the heart of the synthesis architecture, each capable of sawtooth, triangle, square, and pulse waveforms with dedicated pulse width modulation for tonal shaping. The multimode filter switches between 2-pole and 4-pole slopes, delivering that warm, resonant character you'd expect from a proper analog low-pass design. A single ADSR envelope and LFO with four waveforms handle modulation duties across the oscillators, filter, and amplifier, while the 16-step motion sequencer lets you record knob movements as a modulation source rather than just note data. The synth operates in three distinct modes: polyphonic for playing chords across the three oscillators, unison for stacking all three voices onto a single note for thicker leads, and arpeggiator for rhythmic variation. The 27 touch-sensitive keys provide expressive control, and comprehensive MIDI implementation via both 5-pin DIN and USB means integration with controllers and DAWs is seamless. Analog sync I/O lets you lock it with other gear, while USB-C bus power keeps the whole package portable enough to fit in a backpack.

The synth has found genuine appreciation among users who value its straightforward workflow and authentic analog sound in a package that actually fits on a desk. Common feedback notes that it lacks a noise oscillator and separate high-pass filter compared to its inspiration, and the motion sequencer can't automate every parameter, but these feel like reasonable tradeoffs given the size and price point. The paraphonic architecture means you're working with three independent oscillators rather than three complete voices, which is worth understanding before diving in, but it's proven capable of everything from lush pads to aggressive basses.
