The Disting EX essentially puts two of Expert Sleepers' legendary utility modules into a single 8HP slot, but with enough processing power and new algorithms that it transcends being a simple doubling act. If you've ever found yourself wishing for just one more Disting in your rack, this is the answer—except it's actually better than having two separate units.
At its core, the EX runs at 96kHz with significantly more RAM than its predecessors, which means delays and reverbs can stretch much longer and sample playback latency drops to just 700 microseconds. The module is fully DC-coupled, so every input and output handles both audio and CV depending on which algorithm you select. You get four inputs and four outputs, all illuminated jacks that glow red or blue to show voltage polarity, plus four push-button encoders for navigation. The standout addition is the OLED display, which makes menu diving through the extensive algorithm library far less painful than squinting at LEDs. There's also a dedicated WAV recorder that can capture up to six channels at 48 or 96kHz in 16 or 24-bit depth straight to the included MicroSD card.
The algorithm selection is genuinely staggering. Beyond the improved versions of classic Disting functions—quantizers, pattern generators, filters, delays—you get entirely new modes like an eight-voice polyphonic sample player, a tape-style delay inspired by Expert Sleepers' Augustus Loop, granular pitch shifter, vocoder, rotary speaker effect, and a multi-FX chain with EQ, delay, reverb and pitch processing. The module ships loaded with quality samples and wavetables from Spitfire Audio, Goldbaby, and Adventure Kid, with plenty of card space for your own sounds. Community response has been enthusiastic, with users appreciating the processing power and the OLED screen as genuine quality-of-life improvements, though the deep menu structure means you'll want to spend time learning the layout.
