Osmose 61 Keyboard Synthesizer + MPE MIDI Controller

KeyboardDigitalPolyphonic

$1,999

When Expressive E released the original 49-key Osmose in 2023, it immediately became a favorite among composers and performers seeking genuine expressivity from a keyboard—Hans Zimmer even used it on the Dune: Part Two score. The Osmose 61 takes that foundation and adds a full octave of range, giving you the breathing room for two-handed arrangements and deeper harmonic exploration without sacrificing any of the touch-sensitive magic that made the original special.

The heart of this instrument is its three-dimensional keybed, where every one of those 61 full-size keys responds to tap, pressure, pitch bend, vibrato, and aftertouch independently. The EaganMatrix sound engine from Haken Audio delivers up to 24 voices of polyphony across multiple synthesis types—physical modeling, FM, subtractive, and more—with five multimode filters and a solid effects section including reverb, delay, compressor, drive, convolution, and EQ. You get 580 factory presets right out of the box plus room for 2048 of your own, all accessible through a color LCD screen and six encoders, with pitch and mod sliders for real-time tweaking. The built-in MPE arpeggiator and pressure glide control add another layer of performance possibility, while dual 1/4-inch stereo outputs and USB connectivity let you integrate it into larger setups or use it as an MPE controller for compatible software and hardware.

The community response has been consistently enthusiastic—musicians praise how the instrument genuinely feels like an acoustic instrument despite being fully digital, with the per-note gestural control creating a direct connection between intention and sound that most keyboards simply don't offer. Some users note the learning curve for getting the most out of MPE workflows, but that's more about expanding your playing vocabulary than any limitation of the hardware itself. At just under 21 pounds and roughly 42 inches wide, it's substantial enough to feel professional without dominating your setup.
