Korg 770

KeyboardAnalogMonophonic

Back in 1976, this synth arrived as one of Korg's early budget-friendly analog designs, sharing circuitry with the Mini-Korg but repackaged for simpler, more hands-on experimentation—perfect for those buzzy, retro vibes that defined the era.

Its subtractive heart pumps through two VCOs: the first dishes out triangle, square, sawtooth, pulse waves with PWM via LFO, plus an external input option, all tunable across six octaves down to deep 64' bass; the second adds sawtooth, dual ring mod flavors for metallic sci-fi tones, scale noise that tracks the keyboard, pink and white noise. Dual "Traveler" sliders command the lowpass and highpass filters with resonance control, while a single envelope shapes VCA attack, sustain, and modes like auto-trigger or retrigger. Two LFOs handle vibrato with delay, pitch bend, and filter mod, all mixed via straightforward knobs on a compact wooden-sided panel with 32 keys (F1-C3), no wheels but portamento and foot pedal support for CV/Gate tweaks. Measuring 560 x 340 x 195 mm, it's a sturdy, portable beast with 1/4" in/out for processing external signals.

Players dig its warm bass, leads, and weird ring-mod snarls—think Human League edges or Freddy Fresh experiments—though its monophonic limits and basic memory keep it a charmingly raw collector's joy rather than a modern workhorse.
