The KARMA runs on Korg's Hyper Integrated synthesis engine with 62 voices of polyphony, dual oscillators per voice plus sub-oscillators and noise generators, and a choice of 13 different oscillator types including physical modeling algorithms for organs, pianos, brass, and strings. The filter section offers both 24dB low-pass and 12dB high-pass options with resonance, while three envelope generators and two LFOs handle modulation duties. You get a solid effects rack with five insert slots, two master effects, and EQ, plus 425 PCM samples and 413 drum sounds to work with. The 61-key keyboard uses synth action and responds to velocity and aftertouch, with four control knobs and two switches on the left side for real-time tweaking.
What makes the KARMA special is its core technology: the GE (Generated Effect) engine that can generate grooves, arpeggios, and evolving textures based on the chords and notes you play. With roughly 400 parameters per GE and over a thousand presets included, you can create intricate techno patterns, natural glissandos, strummed guitar simulations, and rhythmic textures that would normally require hours of sequencing. The 16-track sequencer stores up to 200,000 note events across 200 songs, and expansion slots let you add optional sound libraries. The brushed aluminum center section and plastic side cheeks give it a professional look that's held up reasonably well over time.
