Korg SQ-10 Analog Sequencer

DesktopAnalog

Back in 1978, this sequencer stepped onto the scene alongside the MS-20, marking Korg's bold entry into analog sequencing and instantly becoming a cornerstone for modular experimentation with those early semi-modular beasts.

Its three channels each pack 12 steps, with independent voltage knobs per step on channels A and B for precise pitch control—selectable from ranges like -5/+5V or -1/+1V, complete with dedicated portamento sliders for smooth glides. Channel C shines for modulation, handling VCF/VCA duties or note lengths, while trigger outs per step let you patch resets for sequences from 1 to 12 steps, even chaining A and B for 24-step epics. A voltage-controlled clock generator drives it internally (with linear, x2, and /2 CV inputs for wild tempo modulation), or sync it externally via clock/trigger ins and outs; CV/Gate ports make it a natural MS-series companion, and a built-in 2-channel mixer adds patching flexibility. Housed in a sturdy desktop metal case with banana jacks and straightforward front-panel switches for sequence modes, it's pure analog tactility from Japan's Keio labs.

Vintage collectors and MS enthusiasts still chase these for their raw, hands-on character—praised for funky 12-step rhythms and wave sequencing tricks, though some note the fixed banana jacks limit modern Eurorack integration without adapters.
