Italian synthesizer builder L.E.P. spent five years developing the ArpoLoop, and the result is something genuinely unusual: a fully analog generative composer with zero digital components, no microprocessors, and no memory storage—just pure analog circuitry that creates endlessly evolving melodies and rhythms.
The ArpoLoop packs four voltage-controlled oscillators, three attack-release envelope generators, and four voltage-controlled amplifiers into a pizza-box-sized desktop unit measuring 310 x 320 x 20mm. The oscillator section features three sine-wave VCOs with sync and linear FM capabilities, plus a fourth VCO with switchable waveforms that can also function as an LFO. The voice architecture lets you hard-sync VCO1 and VCO3 to VCO2 for classic synth tones and formant-like sounds, while each VCA can be controlled by envelope or turned into a ring modulator using VCO4. A resonant bass drum circuit and snare generator handle percussion duties. The real magic lives in the bottom half: four rhythm generators triggered by three ramp generators create non-random but highly musical patterns based on threshold mixing, while an eight-step cube sequencer arranged in a cube formation gives you hands-on control over note sequences. Since there's no digital memory, each session becomes a unique performance where you guide the instrument through its CV inputs and controls rather than programming in traditional ways.
The aluminum enclosure features a foldable voice board with a brass hinge, and the whole unit runs on a single power supply.
