Polymoog 203a

KeyboardAnalogPolyphonic

Introduced in 1975, this beast was Moog's bold leap into polyphony, packing 71 custom Polycom chips—one per key—to unleash full chords from a true analog heart, a rarity back when most synths played one note at a time.

Its 71-note weighted Pratt & Read keyboard feels premium under your fingers, with velocity sensitivity and split zones for three independent sections, each with its own volume slider. Dive into eight presets like strings, brass, piano, organ, harpsichord, funk, clav, and vibes, tweakable via Var mode for wild analog tweaks using the 24dB/oct ladder filter, ADSR envelope, LFO with multiple waveforms, and a three-band resonant EQ that doubles as a filter bank. Two oscillators per voice handle saw, square, triangle, pulse, and noise, with modulation from keyboard tracking, sample & hold, and more; a dedicated bass filter splits the lower octaves. At 82 pounds with a stereo out and optional Polypedal for foot-controlled pitch, filter, and sustain, it's a studio titan built for immersive layers.

Players love its lush, orchestral tones that shaped tracks by Chick Corea, Kraftwerk, and Prince, though its notorious unreliability means serviced units shine brightest—vintage quirks included.
