Subsequent 37 CV Limited Edition Synthesizer

Moog's decision to resurrect the Sub 37 as a limited-edition redesign in 2017 wasn't just about nostalgia—it was about fixing what the community had been asking for. The Subsequent 37 CV takes the beloved Sub 37 Tribute Edition and reimagines it with deeper modular integration, a revoiced sound engine, and a striking new aesthetic that pairs solid aluminum with North American hardwood side panels.

At its core, this is a paraphonic analog synthesizer built around two syncable oscillators with continuously variable waveforms, a sub-oscillator, and a noise generator that all feed into a dedicated mixer section. The classic Moog Ladder filter sits at the heart of the signal path, now with reshaped gain-staging that pushes harmonic saturation and analog compression further than before. The Multidrive circuit—a FET transistor overdrive intimately connected to the filter—has been expanded to deliver everything from subtle grit to aggressive foldback-style distortion. The mixer itself now has double the headroom of its predecessor, which means cleaner oscillator blending in mono mode and crisper separation when playing both voices in Duo mode. You get 256 presets across 16 banks, a 64-step sequencer with Moog's signature ratchet notes, a syncable arpeggiator spanning 2 to 280 BPM with multiple modes, and two DAHDSR envelopes with looping capability. The 37-key velocity-sensitive keybed with aftertouch feels responsive and playable, while the control panel's 40 knobs and 74 switches put sound design directly under your fingers.

What sets the CV apart is its modular DNA. Four assignable CV outputs and two gate outputs let you patch this into Eurorack or large-format systems, with all assignments saved per preset. USB and MIDI connectivity mean you can control external gear from your DAW or use the included Moog Subsequent 37 Editor for deeper editing. The redesigned headphone amplifier delivers serious headroom and volume for live monitoring, and the whole package weighs 22 pounds and measures 26.75 by 14.75 inches—substantial but not unwieldy.
