Born from a one‑man workshop in Brazil, this compact monosynth distills the joy of classic analog into a tabletop instrument that begs to be played. Its vintage‑inspired chassis, complete with an old‑school VU meter, feels more like a piece of audio furniture than another black box, yet underneath is a focused tone engine built for bold, immediate sound design.
Mutuca from Reco‑Synth is a hand‑built, fully analog desktop synthesizer centered around two 3340‑based VCOs and a 24 dB/oct low‑pass transistor filter with resonance. The oscillators deliver saw, triangle and pulse‑width‑modulated square waves, and can be cross‑patched for FM and oscillator sync, moving smoothly from thick unison basses to metallic, modulated leads. One oscillator can be dropped into LFO range for slower, evolving movement, while an ADSR envelope shapes both amplitude and filter and can be switched into looping mode for pseudo‑LFO duties. All of this runs into a dedicated VCA and line output, with MIDI In on standard 5‑pin DIN for easy integration alongside modern controllers and sequencers. Simple on the surface but surprisingly deep in practice, Mutuca offers a focused path into analog subtractive and FM‑flavored textures in a hand‑crafted, characterful package.
