Juno-106 Analog Keyboard Synthesizer

KeyboardAnalogPolyphonic

Back in 1984, this synth arrived as an affordable powerhouse that brought stable polyphony to bedroom producers and pros alike, thanks to its clever digitally controlled oscillators that locked in tuning without the usual analog drift.

It packs six voices of pure analog warmth from a single DCO per voice, pumping out sawtooth and pulse waveforms through a classic 24dB/octave lowpass filter, a subtle highpass, and a versatile ADSR envelope. Modulation comes via a single LFO, while the legendary built-in analog chorus—switchable across four depths—adds that lush, swirling thickness everyone chases. Hands-on sliders and buttons cover every parameter from oscillator mix to envelope decay, all laid out intuitively on a sturdy panel above a 61-note velocity-insensitive keyboard, with a pitch bend/modulation lever for expressive sweeps. MIDI implementation is solid for the era, handling note data, patches, and even SysEx for full remote control, plus 128 onboard memories and a simple arpeggiator.

Decades on, it's earned a cult following for those fat basses, glassy pads, and punchy leads that cut through mixes—artists from Vince Clarke to modern acts still swear by its vibe, though some note the non-velocity-sensitive keys as a retro quirk. If you're after that timeless Juno tone without menu-diving, this one's a no-brainer.
