At its core, it's a fully editable ROMpler with 64-voice polyphony across 16 multitimbral parts, drawing from 1083 waveforms in 64MB wave memory (16-bit linear equivalent), plus 1024 preset patches, 16 rhythm sets, and 64 performances—all GM2 compatible. Each patch layers up to four stereo tones for lush, expressive sounds, enhanced by filters and matrix control, while two SRX expansion slots let you add up to 192MB of premium waves. Effects shine with three simultaneous MFX processors (90 types including COSM guitar amp modeling, slicer, and 3D delay—limited to 50 types in Performance mode), plus 3 chorus varieties, 5 reverbs with 24-bit quality, and a 2-band system EQ per four outputs; connectivity includes 24-bit/44.1kHz analog stereo outs, S/PDIF digital, optical, headphones, MIDI, and even a front-panel USB for easy computer integration. Hands-on editing happens via a backlit 20x2 character LCD, value dial for tweaking patches/performances, dedicated buttons for modes and cursoring, and a handy Patch Finder for quick category searches.

Over two decades on, players still praise its pristine, Fantom-X-inspired presets and effects depth for studio mixes and live rigs, though some note the reduced DSP caps certain MFX combos compared to fuller XV models.
