Prophet 3000

RackmountDigitalPolyphonic

One of the earliest rackmount samplers to nail stereo sampling at 16-bit/48kHz rates, it packed over 10 seconds of high-fidelity stereo capture into its standard 2MB memory—expandable to 8MB for even longer loops that rivaled pro studio gear back in 1987.

This 8-voice polyphonic beast drops stereo samples through a digital core with a hybrid twist: analog CEM3387 4-pole lowpass filter for that warm, resonant sweep, paired with an analog VCA and dedicated 5-segment volume envelope. Two more ADSR envelopes feed a flexible mod matrix with 16 destinations like filter cutoff or pan, driven by dual LFOs, velocity, pressure, and MIDI controllers. Controls glow via a crisp front-panel interface for zero-crossing loop editing—scan and pick seamless start/end points manually—plus threshold-triggered sampling and SCSI for lightning-fast hard disk loads. Rack-friendly at 5U, it offers 4 stereo outs (auto-routed from stereo mix), 1 stereo audio in, and full MIDI integration.

Ultra-rare today due to Sequential's short-lived run, collectors chase it for pristine sample playback and that Prophet-era modulation depth, though some note the basic voice architecture lacks the effects of later samplers.
