diceFriend is a small wooden generative stereo synthesizer from Sigil Instruments, built around chance, touch, and compact performance control. The official page describes six potentiometers split across two layers, three brass pads, a dedicated Dice button, and swappable firmware, giving the instrument multiple personalities rather than a fixed preset workflow.
In autonomous mode, diceFriend can drive itself with chaotic and generative algorithms including Lorenz, Dadras, Rungler, and grain-based behavior. In touch mode, the three brass pads become the playing surface, with pressure and hold time shaping dynamics and timbre. It also bridges hardware and software setups through USB-C class-compliant MIDI, MIDI clock send/receive, CV-to-MIDI translation, two banana CV inputs, and a 3.5 mm stereo line output.
