Regional sound and tuning systems are the center of this drum machine, not an afterthought. Sonic Liberation Devices builds the Global South Drum Machine & Sampler around regionally sourced kits and non-traditional tunings developed with musicians and ethnomusicologists across geographies.
The instrument uses eight-voice kits, with each kit carrying eight voices and per-voice Sculpt controls. Its sequencer defaults to 16 steps but supports variable 8, 16, 32, and 64 step lengths per track, with pattern chaining for longer arrangements.
A World Globe tuning workflow lets the player choose a region and its default intonation, then switch to chromatic or custom tuning when needed. The desktop hardware measures 41.5 x 23 x 3.5 cm, uses dedicated parameter dials with a Shift layer and latch gestures, and includes a flat FX rack with one-dial wet/dry control.
