Twisted Electrons TherapKid

DesktopDigitalDuophonic

TherapKid squeezes the gritty soul of Commodore 64 SID chips into a palm-sized powerhouse, blending the 6581's raw bite with the 8580's piercing resonance like no real chip ever could.

This digital chiptune synth packs two voices with four oscillators each, drawing from 8-bit wavetables including eight independently tunable and volume-adjustable waveforms—think sine for sub bass, plus extras impossible on original hardware—for monophonic, duophonic, chord, and drone modes. A hybrid multimode filter handles low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and notch, fueled by a 32-bit/96MHz processor and 16-bit DAC with oversampling for lo-fi vibes and hi-fi headroom. Dual LFOs offer up to 48 one-button connections, a multi-mode arpeggiator, ring mod, and one envelope, all controlled via an intuitive knob-packed panel in a sturdy powder-coated steel case measuring 185x95x30mm. It stores 50 RAM patches with a randomizer, runs USB-powered or on batteries, and supports USB-MIDI plus hardware MIDI via included adapter.

Fans loved its compact ferocity for instant C64 nostalgia and experimental sound design, though some noted the limited voices keep it best as a desktop sketchpad rather than a full lead machine.
