Mono Lancet Special Edition

DesktopAnalogMonophonic

Vermona's Mono Lancet has been a studio workhorse since 2016, and this Special Edition in blue proves that sometimes the best gear doesn't need to reinvent itself—it just needs to sound great and stay out of your way.

This is a fully analog desktop synth built around two voltage-controlled oscillators that can be detuned against each other to create depth and movement. VCO1 delivers square, sawtooth, and triangle waves across 32', 16', and 8' octaves, while VCO2 adds square, sawtooth, and white noise in the 4', 8', and 16' ranges with up to seven semitones of independent detune. The signal flows through a characteristically warm 24 dB per octave lowpass filter that can self-oscillate and be played tonally across roughly 2.5 octaves, shaped by a standard ADSR envelope with bipolar intensity control. The LFO offers six waveforms—sawtooth up and down, square, triangle, sine, and sample-and-hold—running from a crawl at 0.05 Hz all the way up to 250 Hz for FM-style textures. Pulse width modulation is controllable via MIDI, and the VCA can operate in three modes: envelope-driven, fixed gate, or always-on for drones. The whole thing measures just 210 by 145 millimeters and weighs 750 grams, making it genuinely portable despite its sonic authority.

The Mono Lancet has earned respect in the community for delivering rich, velvety analog character without unnecessary complexity. Players consistently praise the oscillator pairing and filter character for creating convincing lead and bass sounds, while the LFO-to-pitch modulation is noted as a particularly satisfying bread-and-butter vibrato effect. The MIDI implementation with velocity control adds modern playability to the classic architecture. This Special Edition maintains that proven formula in a striking blue finish, making it as visually distinctive as it is sonically capable.
