Waldorf's first dip into Eurorack came with this gem back in 2015, packing the soul of their legendary Microwave and Wave synths into a compact wavetable powerhouse that still turns heads in modular rigs.
At its heart is a sophisticated digital wavetable engine offering 80 classic Waldorf wavetables, plus 10 user slots and 50 text-to-speech ones, with cyclic scanning where you can modulate position, travel speed from -120 to +120 RPM, spectral envelope, and noisiness independently of pitch. It fits neatly at 32HP wide with a sturdy powder-coated metal panel holding 10 rotary knobs—like Position, Tune with octave switch, Spectrum, Brilliance, Keytrack, and Travel Speed—plus a wavetable encoder, 2x7-segment display, and six 3-position switches for mod routing. Connections include a 1V/oct CV input with trim, gate in for triggering, three extra CV ins each with gain pots and dest switches, audio out, and a galvanically isolated USB for wavetable transfers or typing text for the onboard speech synth. Power sipping at +/-12V 150mA, it supports real-time recording from external audio via time-domain analysis, and up to 8-voice polyphony through Doepfer bus if wired right.
Modular folks love its rich, evolving tones and creative wavetable tools that punch above its size, though some note the knobs can feel a bit loose after heavy patching.
