SE Micro Music Workstation

MicroDigitalPolyphonic

When Woovebox launched in 2023, it proved that you could pack a legitimate music workstation into something smaller than a guitar tuner. The SE version takes that concept and refines it with a proper injection-molded enclosure, bidirectional MIDI, and enough battery life to get through a full day of creative sessions.

The heart of this thing is a 16-part multitimbral synthesizer engine with one 5-voice polyphonic track and fifteen 4-voice paraphonic tracks, giving you flexibility across different sound design approaches. You get three oscillators per voice pulling from 17 synthesis algorithms including virtual analog, FM, super saw, AM, and ring modulation, plus ten filter types, multiple envelopes and LFOs, and a genuinely impressive effects section with per-voice processing, global reverb and dual delays, compression, distortion, and bitcrushing. The sequencer is where things get interesting: 16 songs with 16 tracks each, 16 patterns per track, and 16 steps per pattern, all supporting polyrhythmic sequencing, probability triggers, swing, and micro-timing adjustments. There's also a sampling engine with 62 seconds of recording time, sample slicing and chopping, pitch shifting, time stretching, and a built-in looper with overdub capabilities. The whole unit measures just 73 by 77 millimeters, weighs 66 grams, and runs for over nine hours on a single charge via USB-C.

The community has embraced the Woovebox for its surprising depth and playability at this scale. Common feedback highlights the slick modulation system, the ability to use samples as oscillators for experimental sound design, and the flexibility of controlling it via Bluetooth MIDI from external keyboards or DAWs. The main trade-off users mention is the compact button layout, which demands some menu diving for complex edits, though the Wooveconnect 2 web editor helps streamline workflow and data transfer. The SE strikes a practical balance between capability and price, making it genuinely useful for sketching ideas, performing live, or as a portable sound module for a larger setup.
