Con Brio, Inc. was founded around 1979 in Pasadena, California, by Tim Ryan, Alan Danziger, and Don Lieberman, three students from the California Institute of Technology who initially explored audio synthesis equipment for mapping the cerebral cortex of cats. The company produced the ADS, an early digital synthesizer known as the Advanced Digital Synthesizer, starting with the ADS 100 prototype designed as a tone generator for hearing tests. Despite its innovative approach, Con Brio struggled with high costs and competition, ceasing operations by 1982 after producing limited units.
