BEATROOTS is an experimental firmware modification for the Korg Volca Beats that turns its four PCM parts into four digital synthesis voices while keeping the analogue drums available. Clap becomes a tempo-related noise grain, Claves a Delta Clamp glitch loop with pitch bends, Agogo a pitched code loop, and Crash an interpolated sine bass with a falling pitch envelope. PCM SPEED changes each voice’s main parameter when the next hit starts, and motion sequencing can automate those settings. Crash also responds chromatically on MIDI channel 11; its part level can drive it into clipping. The project supplies a standalone Python patcher and an offline browser patcher rather than Korg firmware. Users provide the exact official System Updater 1.04 WAV and generate their own update. The author documents testing on a Volca Beats reporting SYS 1.04, P0.08 and E1.00, including the alternate update mode. This is device-specific experimental firmware: read the installation and restore notes, keep the original update, and do not assume recovery is guaranteed.
