Ketch turns the FM-1 into a four-channel tracker inspired by LSDJ, picoTracker and the M8. Songs contain chains, chains contain phrases, and each 16-row phrase stores notes, instruments, velocity and commands. Per-row controls include retriggering, delay, chance, ramps and sound parameters. Instrument editing, effects, channel mixing, live recording and step entry are available from the device controls, with projects stored in flash and USB audio for recording the result. The first public 0.1-beta release has a complete firmware package and explicitly records testing on one physical FM-1. Its browser instrument and screen guide help explain the tracker workflow before installation. The beta warning matters: projects saved now may not load in a future version, so users should record important material. This is an FM-1 build, not firmware for the hardware trackers that inspired it.

Similar Alt Firmware

Melodee
firmwaregithub.com
Melodee is a multi-engine FM-1 firmware derived from Felucca, with a developed pattern, song and recording workflow, sound editing, preset banks, modulation and effects. A web editor and illustrated manual accompany the device firmware. Public packages include firmware and recovery tools, and the installer distinguishes stable releases from development or release-candidate builds. Use stable version 1.4.1 for this intake recommendation. Physical FM-1 use is documented by owners, including a report naming version 1.4.1. That report also exposes a limitation with multiplexed MIDI from an OXI Split 2.
Niagara Drift
firmwaregithub.com
Niagara Drift is a dual-drone synthesizer firmware for the FM-1. Each drone combines a changing virtual-analogue waveform with a partner oscillator, sub and noise, then passes through its own resonant filter and drive. The two parts can interact through pitch linking, synchronization and cross-modulation. A multi-wave LFO, rhythmic swell, drifting parameters, delay and reverb create sustained textures that move over time. This recommendation is specifically for the released 0.1 beta, which the author reports testing on one physical FM-1. The repository's current main README describes upcoming 0.2 work, so descriptions and image candidates must be taken from the 0.1 release rather than promising unreleased improvements. A browser version and a web installer are available.
AMB-1
firmwaregithub.com
AMB-1 turns the M-VAVE FM-1 into a generative ambient instrument inspired by Brian Eno's Music for Airports. It begins playing when switched on, combining slowly breathing voices, bell patterns on loops of unequal length, a gliding bass and quiet Euclidean percussion. Tape echo, a long tape loop and plate reverb tie the layers together. Rather than recording a conventional sequence, players choose a piece and scale, add or remove notes, freeze the arrangement and adjust the voices as it evolves. The project provides a browser emulator, illustrated manual, firmware downloads and a USB web installer. The Firmware Hub lists public version 1.3 and links the original repository and project site. Screen-reader integration reports the current page, control values and musical state over USB.
CTL-1
firmwaregithub.com
CTL-1 replaces the FM-1 application with a standalone MIDI controller and compact performance sequencer. The keys can send notes in selected scales with chord controls, velocity and aftertouch, while four banks of knob assignments send MIDI controllers. An arpeggiator and four-track Euclidean drum sequencer share the device clock. General MIDI sounds on the FM-1 provide local monitoring so it can be used without an external sound module. The project publishes versioned firmware, a USB installer, a browser emulator and a manual. Its development handoff records an actual device check in which Bluetooth starts and the GM sounds play after a startup-crash fix. USB/Bluetooth routing and the USB-only package have different behavior, so the listing should preserve those distinctions and the release notes. This is on-device replacement firmware rather than a desktop controller utility.
ChoralRoot FM-1
firmwaregithub.com
ChoralRoot FM-1 turns the M-VAVE FM-1 into an Orchid-style chord instrument. One hand chooses roots while the other selects chord qualities, extensions and performance modes, with strumming, arpeggiation, bass and a looper available from the panel. Its sound engines and device support build on Felucca, while the chord logic comes from the ChoralRoot musical engine. The project includes a browser emulator, a firmware installer and editing tools. Public firmware packages are available, including standard and single-core variants. Community reports document playing the FM-1 version on physical hardware; testing varies by release and configuration. A shared-repository SMK-37 port also exists.
POCKET GAMMAWAVE (GW-1)
firmwaregithub
POCKET GAMMAWAVE (GW-1) is alternative firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1 by Frederic Valente, built on JIANT FM and Felucca with SLOOP song arrangement. Eight engines cover virtual analog, six-operator FM, phase distortion, chiptune, formant voice, organ, noise and synthesized drums. VOWEL and SCREAM filters, four additional drive types and Hearth macros expand sound shaping. A 49-genre generator creates patterns and arrangements, while ORBIT and DRIFT mutation modes vary notes and timbre. Its screen combines filter curves, reactive spectra, live scopes and animated visualizers. The browser emulator runs the firmware; a companion Web Studio provides editing, pattern-based tape lanes and WAV export. The tape lanes hold note patterns rather than recorded audio.
Frodhes
firmwaregithub
Frodhes is an electric-piano firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1 that models the mechanics of a Fender Rhodes. Its voice engine simulates a hammer, tine, tonebar and magnetic pickup, with four instrument types: Stage 77, Suitcase, Early Felt and Bell Dyno. A performance page gives the four knobs assignable controls, while dedicated pages expose the voice and effects. The effects chain includes compression, drive, tremolo or wah, phaser, chorus, delay and reverb. Chord mode, scales, an arpeggiator and a pattern recorder with quantization, overdub and undo support playing and recording. It includes twelve factory and sixteen user presets, USB and TRS MIDI, MIDI clock sync and a browser emulator running the firmware as WebAssembly.
fm1-chord
firmwaregithub.com
fm1-chord converts the M-VAVE FM-1 into a chord instrument with an Omnichord-style strumplate. The left white keys choose chords within the selected scale; the remaining white keys strum individual chord tones. Black keys change chord qualities, inversions and held notes, while slash-bass controls let a bass note differ from the chord root. Lead, drone, arpeggiator and repeat modes sit alongside a chord sequencer, drum patterns and a layered looper. Sounds, Current source documentation reports FM-1 operation.
Tonitor
firmwaregithub
Tonitor is alternative firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1 by Nuno Zimas, built for electroacoustic experimentation, live ambient music and sound exploration. Six tracks combine independently chosen engines and sounds with free loop recorders, each supporting up to ten overdubs and its own loop length. Four engines cover six-operator FM, gesture-driven lo-fi synthesis, an eight-oscillator instrument inspired by the LYRA-8, and noise, logic operations and manipulated buffers. Generative paths bias new sounds toward ambient or experimental textures. Per-track envelopes, resonant filtering, granulation, bit and sample-rate reduction, and shared effects shape sustained notes and layered gestures. Sixty-four session slots store the performance state. The interface uses large text, high contrast and a distinct colour for each track to support low vision.
MAKU
firmwaregithub.com
MAKU turns the FM-1 into an always-on generative ambience instrument. It begins a new in-key musical world on power-up and evolves layers of sound, with performance gestures for pushing, lifting, scrambling and shaping the result. The interface emphasizes immediate interaction and retaining ideas you like rather than conventional pattern programming. A browser build lets users try the instrument without installing firmware. The 1.0 release includes a complete firmware package and identifies the areas verified by the author on hardware. Persistence across some update paths and other edge cases remain explicitly unverified, so retain those limits in the description and review notes. Maku37 is a separate SMK-37 port.
MC-1
firmwaregithub
MC-1 is a four-part groovebox firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1 by dspaudio. Three melodic parts combine synthesis and recorded-instrument presets with a separate sixteen-lane drum part. Its sound engines include LA-inspired synthesis, a monophonic acid voice, and synthesized drum kits. Eight melodic voices are shared across the three parts, with six drum voices across the kit. Sixty-four patterns, sixteen-step sequencing, song arrangement, an arpeggiator, and recorded knob movements support composition and performance. Each part sends to two shared effects banks covering reverb, delay, chorus, and flanging. USB MIDI, TRS MIDI input, and stereo USB audio connect it to other gear. A browser emulator runs the shared sound engine and interface.
BEETLE
firmwaregithub
BEETLE is a public-beta six-lane tracker and digital drum machine for the M-VAVE FM-1 by SikkenWorks. Five synth lanes and one drum lane use independent patterns of up to 16 steps, with 48 patterns and song chaining. Synth sounds include virtual-analog, SID-inspired, and NES-inspired instruments, while the drum kit offers editable components. Tracker effects, per-step velocity and gate, copy/paste, undo, and block editing support composition. Live mutes, performance snapshots, punch-in effects, and master EQ, compression, and reverb support performance. A browser simulator lets you explore the workflow. The separate Project Manager handles project backups and restores with experimental transfer-enabled firmware; that build’s hardware validation is pending.
MIN-1
firmwaregithub.com
MIN-1 turns the M-VAVE FM-1 into a minimalist ensemble built from repeating figures, gradual chord cycles and audible musical processes. Its four models—Arpeggio, Phase, Patterns and Bells—provide twenty starting pieces. It can play by itself or follow the user's chords, with an EASY mode that keeps white-key chords inside the selected key. Players can generate new figures, retain ideas, bring layers in or out, grow or shift patterns and record their interactions as a song. The project publishes a browser emulator, installation instructions, firmware downloads and design notes.
Tuna
firmwaregithub
Tuna is generative music firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1 by delirioux, built on Felucca. A port of Mutable Instruments Marbles supplies randomness that musical rules shape into melody, bass, accompaniment and percussion. Its library spans 86 popular genres, 89 composers and styles, and 93 instruments, with character presets ranging from still ambience to driving rhythms. Controls vary rhythm, pitch, density and overall complexity, while played keys steer roots and chords. Freeze a passage into an editable sequence, add trigger conditions and parameter locks, or save the complete state in sixteen slots. Historical tunings, separate MIDI output channels, reverb and a chord-tuned resonator extend the instrument. A browser emulator lets you try the firmware before installation. Tuna remains in development.
FOMAJAM
firmwaregithub.com
FOMAJAM is a nine-track groovebox firmware for the FM-1 built with foma. Tracks can use modelled and sampled drum machines, Felucca-derived synthesis engines, a Karplus–Strong string or a supersaw instrument. Its sequencer provides patterns, accents, slides, ratchets and MIDI output, with effects, themed interfaces and support for user samples. The same project has a browser emulator and device installer. Versioned firmware packages are public. Community reports document actual FM-1 use, including USB-audio operation with an iPad and interaction with drum editing controls. They also describe current limitations: the iPad setup receives FM-1 audio but does not send audio back through it, and a drum-editing issue can require a workaround. Queue the project for review with those limits intact; do not present community use as a formal qualification of every feature or the exact latest package. The foma development toolkit itself is a separate dependency and should not be queued as another firmware item.
CS-1
firmwaregithub
CS-1 is a CS-80-style synthesizer firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1, designed as a MIDI sound module for a dawless setup. Eight voices each combine two channels with oscillators, PWM, resonant high-pass and low-pass filters, independent envelopes, and velocity and pressure response. Ring modulation, chorus and tremolo, portamento, glissando, and channel detuning extend the sound. Automatic aftertouch curves animate notes without a pressure-sensitive controller, while MIDI learn and clock sync support external sequencers. Stereo tape-style delay, phaser, and plate reverb with shimmer add effects. Factory sounds, user presets, and a browser emulator complete the instrument.
CoralFlower
firmwaregithub
CoralFlower turns the M-VAVE FM-1 into a chord instrument inspired by the Telepathic Instruments Orchid. Chord-type keys transform played roots into chords with an optional independent bass part, using two keyboard layouts and 27 scales. An arpeggiator offers nine patterns, including strumming, while a looper records chord progressions with overdub, undo, and timing correction. Virtual-analog and FM engines provide editable chord and bass sounds. Six reorderable effects shape the output, and USB MIDI sends chord and bass notes on separate channels. A pixel flower or coral grows from the notes you play. It is built on ChoralRoot and Felucca, with a browser version for trying it before installation.
Pigeon
firmwaretheshrimpblimp.com
Pigeon is performance-sampler firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1, built on Felucca. Two song samples and a 16-pad drum kit share the published firmware’s 408 KiB sample pool. Editable chops provide waveform zoom, pitch, envelopes, looping, and latch. A sequencer supports up to 64 steps per track, patterns, arrangement sections, and live recording. A three-track mixer, choke groups, drum rolls, and filter, delay, chorus, reverb, distortion, and compression support performance. Browser tools handle sample preparation and backups, and an emulator lets you try it with your own audio. It is a beta candidate with hardware verification pending; direct recording and resampling are outside its scope.
Noiz Demons
firmwaregithub
Noiz Demons is a Felucca-based FM-1 firmware by SPIKE the Percussionist that turns sound randomization into a themed performance tool. Its per-track Ritual mode selects from 30 demon characters, with each rank controlling how widely parameters can change. A summoning can reroll an entire track, an FM6 patch, or an envelope, LFO, or effects section. Each track displays its own animated sigil that responds to the sound. Summoned sounds can be saved as presets or projects and recorded as automation. Turning Ritual off restores normal editing and graphs. Installation uses a locally built firmware package and the project’s USB-MIDI flashing tool.
UnholyUnion
firmwaregithub.com
UnholyUnion is a generative ambient and drone firmware for the FM-1. Its Immaculate Permutation system creates an arrangement of pad, sequence and chord arpeggio in a shared key, with a fourth voice available for live playing. Users can keep an arrangement, evolve it during performance or generate another, with minor, Dorian and pentatonic choices, four-track modulation and timed automatic evolution. A browser-based Ritual Room provides installation and illustrated guides. Release 0.2.3 includes a complete firmware image, corresponding source and checksums. The author specifically reports saving the current arrangement on a physical FM-1 without audible glitches. The release remains experimental/public beta, and its saved data is not readable by older Felucca or Jangada firmware.
