Microwave XT Tallent Edition is an unofficial firmware extension for the Waldorf Microwave XT and XTk, which also runs on the Microwave II with fewer features. It gives the second oscillator its own wavetable and adds phase and amplitude modulation alongside FM, in either direction between the oscillators. Nine warp modes bend, pulse-width-modulate, mirror or quantize each oscillator's wave as it plays, with the warp amounts available as modulation destinations. New aliasing settings and an optional smooth interpolation between wavetable positions widen the range from stepped, gritty scans to gliding morphs, with a fine control for the start wave. Three new modulation destinations move the effect's settings, such as a chorus's speed or a delay's feedback, MPE input adds per-note pitch bend, pressure and Y, and every new setting can be controlled over MIDI. A bank of sounds and wavetables built around the new features is included. On the XT and XTk the new pages sit behind Shift with the wavetable, FM amount and envelope amount knobs; the Microwave II reaches them with the page dial, plays eight voices and has no X-Mod or Warp. The firmware is created with a browser patcher from Waldorf's official system update and sent to the instrument as a MIDI file, and the original system can be reloaded at any time.
Installing third-party firmware can brick your unit and may void its warranty. Back up first and follow the project's instructions.
