ARP Pro-Soloist

KeyboardAnalogMonophonic

Back in 1972, this synth pioneered one of the earliest aftertouch keyboards, letting you squeeze extra life out of every note by dynamically tweaking volume, filter brilliance, vibrato, and even pitch bends for truly hands-on expression.

Its single VCO pumps out sawtooth and pulse waves—mixing precise widths like 1/64, 1/9, or square for rich timbres—routed through a classic subtractive chain with a voltage-controlled filter inspired by Moog designs, VCA, and clever envelope generators. You'll find 30 onboard presets from flute and bassoon to brass, fuzz guitar, and organ leads, selected via rocker switches, with hands-on sliders for filter brilliance, aftertouch amount, portamento time, vibrato speed, and master volume, plus a useful reiterate button for staccato flair. The 37-key touch-sensitive board spans three-plus octaves in a compact 18.5-pound black metal chassis, perfect for perching atop organs or rigging into modern setups via its mono output.

Players have long praised its bold, stable tones—thanks to innovative digital ROM addressing for quick preset switching and reliable tuning—and that addictive aftertouch for soaring leads, though some note the limited tweakability beyond presets and occasional key sensitivity quirks.
