AtomoSynth's reputation for vactrol-based filters that respond with organic warmth is on full display in the KOE M6, a semi-modular voice that bridges the gap between desktop simplicity and modular flexibility. Originally conceived as a dual-oscillator design, the team made the interesting choice to streamline to a single analog oscillator while adding a MIDI-controlled digital square wave oscillator, giving you both classic warmth and modern control options.
The heart is a voltage-controlled oscillator with sawtooth and pulse waveforms, complete with voltage-controllable pulse width modulation for evolving textures. A sub-oscillator adds weight at minus one or two octaves, while the LFO provides triangle and square waves with voltage control over its rate. The filter section includes both high and low pass modes with resonance control, shaped by an ADSR envelope and a loopable slope generator that lets you dial in custom rise and fall times. A built-in delay with voltage-controlled time and feedback rounds out the signal chain, capable of everything from subtle spring-like reverb to heavily decimated echoes. You also get a voltage mixer for combining modulation sources and a six-mode random voltage generator covering sample and hold, dust, random gates, and MIDI CC output.
The 32-point patch bay with 17 inputs and 15 outputs means the internal normalization handles classic synth duties straight away, but you can completely rewire the signal flow or integrate it into a larger modular setup. MIDI implementation includes pitch, gate, and CC control. The rugged sheet metal enclosure comes finished with micro-textured electrostatic paint, and the front panel detaches so you can mount it as a 48 HP Eurorack module if you decide to go modular. Since its 2022 introduction, the KOE M6 has earned respect from both desktop synth enthusiasts and modular explorers who appreciate its combination of character-filled filters, thoughtful feature set, and genuine flexibility without overwhelming complexity.
