BOSS PC-2 Percussion Synthesizer

MicroAnalogMonophonic

Back in 1983, this pocket-sized pedal dropped as one of Boss's earliest forays into dedicated percussion synthesis, pairing perfectly with their HC-2 Hand Clapper to bring fresh electronic beats to live rigs and studios.

Housed in a rugged, compact Boss enclosure measuring just 3.7 x 2.5 x 5.4 inches and weighing a featherlight 1 pound, it packs a single analog VCO pumping out triangle waves across a massive 85 Hz to 3 kHz range for everything from toms to metallic zaps. Six hands-on knobs let you dial in pitch, LFO rate and depth (switchable triangle or square waves from 2 Hz to 400 Hz, even hitting audio rates), sweep for pitch modulation with positive or negative envelope polarity, decay from 30 ms to 5 seconds on the VCA, and sensitivity for velocity response via its built-in pad or external 1/4-inch trigger input. Trigger it standalone by tapping the pad, sync it to drum machines or guitars, and output through a mono 1/4-inch jack—pure monophonic subtractive magic powered by an internal battery.

Vintage players still hunt these down for their raw, characterful sounds that cut through mixes without beefy bass drums, though some note the low output calls for a preamp; it's a cult favorite for adding quirky percussion to modular setups or retro beats.
