BOSS SYB-3 Bass Synthesizer

MicroHybridMonophonic

Back in 1996, this pedal pioneered the compact bass synth category, letting bassists summon fat analog-modeled tones right from their instrument without lugging a rack unit.

Its hybrid design uses a 19-bit A/D conversion and 44.1kHz sampling to track your bass signal precisely, driving a single virtual analog oscillator with saw, square, PWM, octave-down, and noise-infused waves across seven internal modes. Tweak the lowpass filter via dedicated Frequency and Resonance knobs for classic sweep, while Sens/Decay adjusts trigger sensitivity and envelope tail; add wave shaping or auto-wah in two more modes each. Dual outputs let synth and dry signals run separately, with Effect and Direct level knobs for blending, all in the rugged Boss micro chassis measuring 70 x 125 x 55 mm and weighing just 430g—battery-powered for 4 hours on alkaline or via 9V adapter.

Players love its punchy, monophonic low-end for techno, funk, and industrial vibes, praising the genuine synth feel despite occasional tracking limits on speedy lines; it's a vintage gem that still holds up on bass or guitar.
