Creamware Minimax ASB

DesktopDigitalPolyphonic

Back in 2005, this desktop module dropped as a digital tribute to the Minimoog Model D, packing its classic architecture into a compact, wood-paneled box that lets you dial up those fat, iconic leads and basses with a twist of polyphony the original could only dream of.

At its core, it runs on Creamware's virtual circuit modeling tech for spot-on analog-style subtractive synthesis, delivering 12 voices from three virtual analog oscillators, a mixer with white/pink noise, and a resonant 24dB/oct lowpass filter. You've got two ADS envelopes, oscillator and filter FM, plus feedback routing for extra bite, all controlled via an intuitive front panel with knobs for velocity-sensitive envelope amounts, mod mix between osc 3 and noise, and a mod wheel depth knob. A modulation matrix opens up routing flexibility, while built-in chorus/flanger and stereo delay add polish—feedback and phase on the flanger give it real edge. It measures 480 x 209 x 40-76mm, weighs 3.4kg, and connects via dual 1/4" ins/outs, full MIDI DIN/USB, with 128 factory and 128 user patches stored onboard; power it with a simple 12V adapter.

Players have long praised its hands-on feel for quick Moog-like sound design, bright top-end response, and MIDI depth that lets you tweak everything from poly mode to aftertouch on pitch or cutoff via CCs—though some note the basic effects and lack of channel aftertouch as classic limitations of its era. It's a tactile gem for vintage enthusiasts chasing that Model D vibe without the hunt for a unicorn.
